Exploring Hudson Yards, The Edge, & The High Line like a Pro

I’m guilty. I’ve been in New York for a little over two years, and I never get the chance to *really* explore the Chelsea/Meatpacking district, other than my occasional Los Mariscos fix.

My best friend was in town and it brought back all the feels. I went on my first trip to NYC with her in 2017. Now that I live here, it was only right to show her a good time. We were off to visit NYC’s most luxurious new additions: Hudson Yards, the notorious Vessel, and The Edge, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. These were all touristy things I’d promised myself to experience before it was too late, and there’s no better time like the present right? Before COVID, The Vessel was an overcrowded tourist attraction, you could hardly get a timeslot to explore the 2,500 step landmark. Now, with their social distance policy in place and the limited travel bans, you can walk right up and admire these views on the same day. It’s incredible how fascinating this architecture is.

To master Hudson Yard, The Edge, & High Line Park in one day, follow these instructions carefully:

  • *Pre-book tickets for The Edge*
Select your desired time slot. You must arrive within your one hour timeframe, but you can stay as long as you’d like. The sunset slots are usually sold out, but don’t worry, you can purchase a flex pass.

  • Do not bring large bags (i.e suitcases or duffle bags) with you, they are not allowed inside

  • No Drinks

  • Tickets: $36 each

GAME PLAN
Start at Chelsea Market

The day begins at Chelsea Market, a marketplace with the most diverse crowd of eateries you can imagine. Since COVID, things are looking different, no hangry crowds in jam-packed hallways. Instead, you’ll notice a row of outdoor vendors peering through their half-opened windows. Pick your favorite, but definitely don’t skip out on Los Mariscos. Go for a “light snack” I keep telling myself.

Walk the High-Line

Reserve your free pass here!

The High Line is currently open from Gansevoort Street to 30th Street. All visitors must enter at the corner of Gansevoort Street and Washington Street, or at 23rd Street, and move northward. One-directional movement is essential for social distancing on narrow paths and stairs. Exit at 30th Street, you will be able to go directly from the High Line to Hudson Yards.

Hover over the city

Up 100-floors on an observation deck overlooking Manhattan, The Edge has angled glass walls for you to lean out over the city and sip champagne in the sky. Fancy huh? After you’ve made it through each room and the incredible 360 views, head down to explore The Vessel.

Step into The Vessel

Find the kiosk outside of The Vessel’s souvenir store (near the SoulCycle tent). Select the day and time that you want to visit. If you’re having trouble, the attendants can point out the kiosk and walk you through each step.

Cop or Drop

Now that the sightseeing is over, you can mosey on over to the mall for some retail therapy. If you’re racking in the dough, this is the one-stop shop for all things designer. If not, I swear this Zara and H&M has the BEST stuff and it’s super organized.

Hope you guys enjoyed this guide!
